KRookodile Suspect test

Krookodile was a contentious force in the meta from the very start, with the switchins to it being few and far between. Due to this, the council held a vote to suspect test Krook, where anyone who had at least 5 wins could vote. The vote was neck and neck for pretty much the entire duration of the suspect, with many people contributing their arguments for why it was or wasn’t broken in the discussion thread. Eventually, the 7th rolled around, and the vote turned out to be an exact tie. However, it requires 60% for any suspect test to go through, so Krook remained unbanned.

Spotlight of the week

Pokemon: Pyroar

Many people, upon seeing Pyroar’s mediocre SpA and bulk, assume it is yet another shitmon with no niche in a powerful meta, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only is one of the only two normal types in the tier, and far faster than Komala, it’s also the only (good) fire type in the meta. The reason being a normal type is actually a boon rather than a disadvantage this meta is that there are no ghosts, and the normal resists are uncommon to straight up bad. This in combination with a useful ice and bug resist can allow Pyroar to come in and threaten most potential switchins. While specs boasts insane power, scarf is usually the most popular set due to outspeeding Beartic in rain, Starmie, and even scarf Krook and Basculin by a few points. Even without specs, this can leverage it’s high bp stab moves with few resists to grab many kos throughout the game, especially versus more offensive teams.

Featured Matches

of the week:

Armaldo is not nearly as obscure or niche as some of the mons covered in this issue, but when you see one, you expect it to break a bit for Beartic or Basculin to clean up with rain. However, in this game, thanks to good positioning and support, Armaldo subverts everyone’s expectations and gets all 6 KOs!

Trick room has been an understated but powerful threat this meta, with powerful abusers like Hatterene, Specs Politoed, Band Mudsdale, and SD Arctibax. This replay showcases how all of those, in conjunction with Band Komala, can demolish even decently bulky teams
